Skate

The Bluesky Skating Rink is located at 801-1st avenue in the quiet Hamlet of Bluesky, 10 kilometres east of the Town of Fairview. 

This maintained ice surface is available for use at all times throughout the winter months and is a favourite for locals for both day and evening skating. There is a change area on site, benches and lighting. 

 

Ski

Downhill Skiing

The Fairview Ski Hill is located southwest of the Town of Fairview, on the banks of the Hines Creek Coulee.  With 20,000 feet of groomed runs (from beginner to expert), 4 lifts and a diverse terrain park, there is plenty of skiing and snowboarding for everyone to enjoy.

Other amenities offered include a well stocked equipment rental selection, a full concession and a chalet with views that can't be beat.

Cross Country Skiing 

Dunvegan Nordic Ski and Cycle develop and maintain an impressive network of cross country ski trails for public enjoyment in the Municipal District of Fairview No. 136.

Hike

Dunvegan Overlook Trail

This moderately challenging jaunt is a 1.4 kilometer out and back trail takes an average of 50 minutes to complete.  The unbeatable view of the Peace River and Historic Dunvegan is well worth the quick hike. 

To access the trail, follow signage to Dunvegan Provincial Park. Once you arrive at Township Road 801A, stay right and head under the Dunvegan Bridge. There is a well marked parking lot 200 meters after the bridge. Washrooms are also available in the parking lot. 

The Maples Trail

An easy route, this paved and maintained trail is great for hiking, walking, and running. This 2.7 km loop trail, with an elevation gain of only 27 metres, takes an average of 35 minutes to complete and is great for all ages. 

To access the trail, follow signage to Dunvegan Provincial Park. Once you arrive at Township Road 801A, stay right and head under the Dunvegan Bridge. Continue heading west until you arrive at Maples Day Use Area. The trailhead is well marked and is located immediately north of the parking lot. Washrooms and all amenities of the Maples Day Use Area are available for public use. 

Historic Dunvegan and Dunvegan Provincial Park Trail Network

Historic Dunvegan and Dunvegan Provincial Park offer an extensive riverside trail system, with a combination of both paved and gravel trails. Generally considered an easy trek, this trail system connects the historic site, the provincial campground, and the access to Dunvegan Market Gardens. 

To access the trail, follow signage to Dunvegan Provincial Park. The trail is accessible at both the Historic Site and the campground. 

Cummings Lake Trail, Town of Fairview 

Walk, jog, run on the 11 kilometer trail network that connects the Town of Fairview, the Fairview Golf Course and Cummings Lake Recreation Area.  

 

Boat

Boats, canoes, and kayaks can access the Peace River from the well-maintained gravel boat launches found at Dunvegan and Pratt’s Landing. 

Dunvegan Boat Launch

Dunvegan boat launch is located 26 kilometres south of the Town of Fairview on the south bank of the Peace River, with road access from Highway 2 on the west side of the Dunvegan bridge. Parking is available to the west of the boat launch area. This gravel boat launch is maintained by the Dunvegan River Rats Society. The Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 provides financial support to the Dunvegan River Rats Society to assist in accomplishing its mandate to maintain the Dunvegan boat launch and facilitate a community of safe river boating.

Pratts Landing Boat Launch

Pratt's Landing Boat Launch can be accessed by vehicle by travelling 32 kilometres west on Highway 682 from the Town of Fairview. The gravel boat launch is immediately east of the Pratt's Landing campground and is accessed by travelling through the campground.

This is a great spot to start a day’s exploration on the river or take a break from a river adventure to enjoy a picnic, overnight camp, or enjoy a quick game of horseshoes. From Pratt's Landing, you can head downstream to Historic Dunvegan, or upstream to Carter's Camp.

Curl

The Whitelaw Curling Rink is bustling curling rink located in the Hamlet of Whitelaw, Alberta, 23 kilometres east of the Town of Fairview. It is owned and operated by the Whitelaw Agriculture Society, and offers three sheets of ice, as well as a kitchen on the lower level and bar on the upper level (both of which are open during operating hours).

Golf

The Fairview Golf Club is situated just north of the Town of Fairview on Highway 732. One of the most popular 9-hole courses in the Peace River region, the Fairview Golf Club is known for its treelined fairways and scenic natural setting. The club has a driving range, fully stocked proshop, cart and club rentals. There is a fully licensed restaurant and lounge on site, with a large patio overlooking the 1st and 9th greens.  Keep up to date on daily lunch specials, tournaments and events by visiting the Fairview Golf Club Facebook page.

Camping and Recreational Vehicle (RV) sites are available with power hookups, tables and firepits at no charge (if you are golfing). Visitors can also explore the Cummings Lake trail network encircling the campground and golf course. Further, the Town of Fairview is adjacent to the golf course and offers all the amenities visitors may need.

Golf season generally runs from May 1 - October 1 (weather permitting).

In addition to the recreational opportunities within our boundaries, the Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 supports and promotes recreation facilities owned and operated by the Town of Fairview, but enjoyed by users from all regional municipalities.
